This was created in 2009 by Matt Cartwright of Portland, OR. It is made of powder coated steel.
Maryhill Museum writes: "'This is a unique flower because of its geometry . I am interested in expressing the natural flower form in a durable medium,' stated Cartwright. This flower from the red silk cotton tree, with its blooming shape, is a colorful, luscious inspiration to me. I hope to demonstrate the beatuy where mathematics and nature intersect. Perhaps this sculpture can evoke the viewer's inner insect as they buzz from sculpture to sculpture within the Maryhill Sculpture Garden."
